Huw Morris is a photographer who lives and works in South Africa. He graduated from Rhodes University in Grahamstown, he was the assistant of various photographers in South Africa and the United Kingdom where he lived for 6 years. He returned to South Africa with his wife and young children and settled in Johannesburg where he photographed for various advertising agencies and companies.
At the same time he starts a career art photographer.
We met him in Johannesburg last September and are happy to expose him in France in our gallery.
“So, this is desire” is his first solo exhibition. It chose to treat the emotional relationships banned under Apartheid.
The series of photos chronicles in eleven tables the life of an afrikaner family in the 1970s with their servants.
The images deliver a careful look at the feelings that may experience the various characters: desire, love, protection and solitude against the ban.
A staging that is reminiscent of the style of Gregory Crewdson.
The subject is treated with humor and kindness. A work mastered while subtlety.
